Volunteer Opportunities

Want to give back to your community?

The Burlington Historical Society is a small, all-volunteer organization, and we need your help in fulfilling our mission of preserving and promoting Burlington’s history.

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with tours, open houses, and educational programs at the Elton Tavern and the Center Schoolhouse. Opportunities including:

Memorial Day open house (Monday, May 27, before and after Burlington’s Memorial Day parade)
Connecticut Open House Day (Saturday, June 8)
Open Schoolhouse Days (Sundays during the summer)
Tavern Day (Sunday, September 15)

We also run a “Passport Program” in conjunction with Lake Garda Elementary School. Lake Garda second graders do a unit on local history; take a field trip to the Tavern, Town Hall, and the Center Schoolhouse; and have the opportunity to complete a “passport” by visiting historic sites around town. We need volunteers to assist with school visits (late April/early May, during the school day), the field trip (end of May, during the school day), and the celebration party for participants (early June, evening).

We have opportunities that can fit into any schedule — whether you are available for one hour or ten, daytime or evenings, workweek or weekend, whether you want to work with children or adults — there are ways you can help. We will provide any necessary training.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact BHS Programs Coordinator Sarah McCusker for more information at programs@burlington-history.org.

Thank you!
