New collections acquisitions

The Burlington Historical Society would like to express deepest thanks to board member Sarah McCusker and Burlington resident Gretel Cote for their recent donations to the society’s historical artifacts collection.

Sarah’s donation of a vintage Walker floor loom will be a nice addition to our textiles and fiber display on the second floor of the Elton Tavern.

Gretel has generously donated one of the original doors from the historic Schwarzmann Mill. Images of the front and back are shown below.

Around the Tavern

The pandemic may have put a damper on a lot of activities this year but BHS has been busy sprucing up the Elton Tavern so it will be ready to host events in the near future. Some of the notable fixes include a new back porch, refinished wood floors and a newly leveled stone walkway.

CT Open House Day 2020

Saturday June 13 is CT Open House Day. In light of the pandemic, organizers have decided to turn this event into a virtual one. Therefore, in lieu of visiting Burlington’s historic Elton Tavern, please enjoy this short video tour of the Tavern, put together by the board members of the Burlington Historical Society.
